Skate America: men's & pairs short programs

Skate America käynnistyi miesten ja parien lyhyohjelmilla. Toivoisin, että maailmassa olisi enemmän Volozoshar/Trankovin ja Savchenko/Szolkowyn tasoisia pareja. Nytkin oli jo lähes etukäteen selvää, että V/T tulee voittamaan, jos heidän ohjelmastaan ei ihan pannukakkua muodostu. Itse ohjelmasta en kuitenkaan pidä, mutta täytyy vain oppia sietämään sitä (ja Maximin viiksiä).

Skate America started with men's and pair's short programs. I wish there were more pairs like V/T and S/S, it would be so much more interesting to watch. It was quite obvious from the beginning that V/T would win the competition, unless they screw up big time. I still don't like V/T's short program, but I need to learn to deal with it (and Maxim's mustache)

Miesten puolella oli sentään kovemmanluokan kisa. Yuzuru Hanyu on niin hyvässä vedossa, että toivottavasti hänen kuntonsa kestää samanlaisena koko kauden! Hänen luistelunsa on niin pehmeää ja varsinkin nuo siirtymät ovat aivan upeita, mielestäni jo Patrick Chania parempia! Pidin myös monista yksityiskohdista hänen koreografiassaan, esim. se liuku jossa terän kanta laahaa maata sopi täydellisesti musiikkiin ja oli innovatiivinen. Hanyu sekä Abbott mielestäni edustavat taitoluistelun tulevaisuutta erityisesti koreografisessa mielessä, he saavat paljon ohjelmistaan irti ja esittävät täysin uudenlaisia ohjelmia. Pidin paljon myös Abbottin ohjelmasta, vaikka näyttääkin siltä ettei hän ole saanut hyppyvarmuuttaan vieläkään kuntoon. Huomenna tulee sitten Abbottin vapaaohjelma, joka on vieläkin hienompi! Abbottin jäkeen luistellut Brezina oli kuin tuulahdus menneestä asuineen ja musiikkeineen. Osasin odottaa hänen heikkoja hyppyjään, sillä hänen muutaman viikon takainen kisa-avauksensa oli samanlainen floppi. Brezinan vahvuus ovat juuri nuo hypyt, perusluistelussa ja esittämisessä hän on paljon muita huippuja takana. Luulen, että Brezinalla tulee vaikeuksia päästä enää edes neljänneksi seuraavissa arvokisoissa.

Men had a lot more competitive field. Yuzuru Hanyu is in such a great shape, I hope he can maintain it through the long season. And he got a world record score! I like how softly he skates, his transitions are phenomenal, even better than Chan's in my opinion. I liked the little details in his choreo, for example the glide where his blade is scratching the ice; so innovative and matching with the music! I think both Hanyu and Abbott represent the future of figure skating when it comes to presentation and choreography. They really get everything out of their choreos and figure skating in general. I really liked Abbott's new sp too although he still isn't very secure jumper. Will he ever be? Tomorrow you'll see his new free program and it is even more fabulous! When Brezina stepped on the ice after him, he looked like a blast from the past. The music and the costume, very old-school. I was aware of his bad jumping shape based on his previous competition. Brezina's strength are the jumps; his basic skating and presentation is behind the other top skater and I'm afraid he won't be 4th anymore in the next Euros or Worlds.
